Alfalfa fiber to improve welfare in pig farming
Luzapeak Pig : Destructured alfalfa in 20kg bales
A product adapted to the well-being of post-weaning piglets
Society is increasingly concerned about the welfare of farm animals. Putting an end to systematic tail docking is becoming a realistic option, thanks to the introduction of environmental enrichment solutions designed to prevent aggressive behavior such as tail docking.
A consumable and sustainable enrichement :
- The 20 kg alfalfa bale developed by Désialis helps to limit the behavioral drift of post-weaning piglets, reducing the incidence of piglet tail biting and associated losses.
- Luzapeak is a compacted alfalfa bale, which means it can be used throughout the post-weaning period (based on 20 piglets per case).
A product perfectly adapted to farmers' needs
- High-temperature heat treatment during dehydration eliminates any germs present,
- Salmonella quality control on production batches,
- Individual bale packaging to protect the product from further contamination,
- High-density pressing to ensure long product life.
An evolution towards greater efficiency
Thanks to a specific treatment for destructuring alfalfa fibers, bale pressing at very high density is improved to increase bale cohesion and durability.
An exclusive process
The alfalfa fiber destructuring process is unique: this physical technological treatment, applied to fresh alfalfa before dehydration, transforms the fibers (thick stems) from a size of 2/4 cm to a finer size of less than 1 cm in length.
